Spring Break 2015: NYC Day 3

Hey guys,

So just to warn you, this post is going to contain a lot of pictures.

On our third day in NYC we did three main things, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Bergdorf Goodman, and Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
Starbucks bag

Our first stop of the day was of course getting coffee for my mother and sister. For breakfast we ended up just eating leftover pizza from the night before because our hotel room had a mini fridge in it and there was a lot of pizza leftover.

I ended up buying water because I love drinking water and it is my favorite beverage. Also, there is nothing in the bag, I just wanted it because I didn’t want to carry my water in my hand since it was so cold out and the purse I decided to use for the day was not large enough to hold it.
Starbucks Ethos Water Bottle
So our first official activity of the day was going to The Metropolitan Museum of Art or The Met for short. If you have watched Gossip Girl, you may recognize this building because Blair (Queen B) would always have breakfast on the steps of The Met with her followers/friends.

If you enjoy going to museums, I would definitely recommend going here and even if you don't enjoy going to museums I would still recommend going there. There is so much to look at there is literally something for everyone. However, my only recommendation would be to plan spending an entire day here because this place is huge. We unfortunately did not know how large it was and so we did not get to see the entire building but we do plan on going back the next time we visit the city. If you like fashion like I do, there is The Costume Institute's Anna Wintour (editor-in-chief of American Vogue Magazine) Costume Center. I did not know this existed until we got there but unfortunately it was closed during the time we went because they were changing the costumes and I believe they were changing them out for Chinese costumes.

After we finished looking around we walked outside and it was snowing! It was so beautiful and amazing to be there when it actually snowed in New York. We have been in NYC one other time during the winter time but it never snowed while we were there and even though this was technically supposed to be my "Spring Break" I am really glad that it snowed while we there. I have probably only seen snow falling one other time and I don't really remember it because I was so young.

Bergdorf Goodman High Fashion Department store

Our next stop was Bergdorf Goodman, which is a high fashion department store that we always have to visit when we are in NYC. My dream job is to become a women’s clothing buyer for this department. If you have never been to this store, I highly recommend going. It is very high priced but sometimes they have amazing sales. However, unless you look like you just got done filming your new movie you may get stared at some. While I was there I had decided that I wanted to buy a couple new pairs of designer jeans so I went with a pair of 7 For All Mankind and a pair of AG Adriano Goldschmied.

So recently I decided that every time I go on a big vacation for something special I was going to buy something special to make the trip more memorable so every time I look at the item I purchased I would remember the trip that I took as well. For example, last year for spring break my mom and I went to North Carolina to visit my dad who was stationed there and on our way back we stopped in Orlando for the last weekend and did a little shopping at the Mall at Millenia. While I was there I purchased my first Louis Vuitton (Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere 30) and then during my recent trip to Las Vegas for my 21st birthday I bought myself my Chanel sunglasses.  So while I was at Bergdorf’s I decided to buy myself a pair of Christian Louboutins.

For dinner we ended up eating at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. I have never eaten at one of these even though there are several in Florida. My mom and dad have both eaten one at the one in Daytona before and I am not sure if my sister has ever eaten at one before. I am not a big seafood eater and I don’t really like the smell either, which is why I have avoided eating there but now that I have I would probably eat there again but probably at a different location. I ended up having a cheeseburger, which was pretty delicious. Also, the view from the restaurant was pretty amazing. It was located in Times Square and the restaurant part in on the second floor so you get a nice view of all the bright billboards.

If you haven't read my Day 2 post and you want to know what we ate for dinner check it out here!

We finished off the evening by going to Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Which we didn’t even realize they had one in NYC. We love going to these and we have been to two of the ones they have in Florida, the one in Orlando and the one in St. Augustine.  We have been to several others as well but I am not entirely sure which ones. We almost went to the one in Washington DC but everything closes extremely early in DC which is the complete opposite for NYC.

Spring Break 2015: NYC Day 2

Hey guys,

So whenever I am planning another trip to NYC I always have a list of places that I want to visit while I am there. These are places that I have either seen in a movie, read about online or somewhere else, or heard about from another person. I love exploring the city and seeing everything that it has to offer (which is a lot, by the way).
Rocco’s Menu

On the second day for breakfast we at a place called Rocco’s, I had a cup of hot chocolate because it was freezing outside. I also had some French toast because that is my favorite breakfast item along with Belgium waffles. The hot chocolate was really good, not the best I’ve ever had but I don’t drink coffee and I really wanted something to warm me up. The French toast was amazing though.

After we finished with breakfast our next stop was a store called BookMarc, which is the bookstore that was started and owned by Marc Jacobs the designer. It was a very neat bookstore. They sold some interesting books though. I actually ended up purchasing a book called “101 Things I Learned in Fashion School” by Alfredo Cabrera and Matthew Frederick.  I also purchased a mini journal that says “New York BookMarc” on it and a couple pencils that say “BookMarc” on them. I definitely want to go back there the next time I visit NYC just to see what else they are selling.

Rocco’s French Toast
BookMarc didn’t actually open up until 11 am and it was about 10:50 am by the time we got there so we ended up having to wait a little bit before they opened and we didn’t really want to wait outside in the freezing cold air so thankfully there was Magnolia Bakery across the street. So we went across the street to check it out because this bakery has been featured in movies and TV shows and people talk about it online as well. We only ended up purchasing some hot chocolate because we still stuffed from breakfast.

Kleinfeld High Fashion Bridal Boutique

Entrance of Kleinfeld Bridal Boutique
After we checked out BookMarc we headed to Kleinfeld because my mother, my sister, and I are very big fans of the show “Say Yes to the Dress” on TLC and so we had to check out the bridal shop where it is filmed. However, they were not filming the day we went as far as we know. Unfortunately, you are not allowed on the showroom floor unless you have an appointment but it was still fun to check it out and see what it looked it like in real life.

TJ Maxx New York City
Next, we stopped into a TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Bed Bath & Beyond shopping plaza. We only ended up shopping at the TJ Maxx and I was the only one who purchased something. If you love anything involving fashion including clothes, shoes, handbags and jewelry, TJ Maxx is a great place to shop to find designer stuff for a lot cheaper than the original price. We always like to stop into a TJ Maxx because they are always better than the ones we have where I live and because the designer selection is always so much better. However, I didn’t end up purchasing anything fun. I ended up purchasing shoe inserts because my feet were killing me. Sadly, the shoes inserts did not help at all.

Flat Iron Building

Macy’s at Herald Square Entrance Fashion Store
After TJ Maxx, we headed to Macy’s at Herald Square because it literally is the best Macy’s to shop at. It is always one of the stops that we have to make whenever we visit NYC. Sadly, I did not find anything there to buy but both my mother and sister found several items. Hopefully I’ll have better luck next time!

For dinner we decided to get room service because we wanted to relax a little bit before heading back out. We ended up ordering a large pepperoni pizza and we totally forgot that New York pizza is completely different than Florida pizza. Our pizza arrived in an extremely large box and each slice was more like two slices. Thankfully we enjoy eating pizza very much and we ended up having pizza for breakfast the next day and for dinner the following day. Also, latter we discovered that the room service we ordered was actually a pizza company that delivered the pizza to our hotel and then to our room rather than the hotel kitchen making it for us.

At the end of the day we ended up checking out Madame Tussauds in Times Square. I have always wanted to check it out but never wanted to pay for it because it seems kind of silly to spend so much money looking at wax figures of celebrities. I am so glad that we finally ended up doing it though because it was a lot of fun and I loved how they set up different scenes for each celebrity. I totally recommend doing this is you have enough time or if you have been to NYC more than once. Since I love fashion so much, it was really cool getting to go to this museum and look at all of the amazing clothes that they had dressed these wax figures in. Another interesting Museum that we checked out on the first day was called the Guggenheim

Spring Break 2015: NYC Day 1

Hey guys, my Spring Break from school has officially been over with for about a week now and I really wanted to try and get a post up as soon as I got back home from traveling but unfortunately I caught a really bad cold and I was not really able to do much all week except rest and focus on getting better. Since my trip was so long, I have decided to write a post for each day of my trip especially since I did so much during this trip and I went to so many new places.

Overall, my trip was amazing and I enjoyed every second of it up until Friday when I woke up with a sore throat and then on Saturday came the fever. I definitely can’t wait to get back to NYC and explore more of the amazing city.

We left hot, sunny Southwest Florida on Thursday February 26th. Our flight ended up getting delayed about 30 minutes but we ended up arriving only about 15 minutes later than was originally planned. Once we landed, we waited for our luggage, grabbed a taxi, and headed straight for the hotel so we could go to bed and wake up ready for the next day.

My sister and me

For the first day we woke up and went to grab breakfast at a coffee shop that was near by, unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it and I also don’t remember the name. My mom sister both had bagels with coffee and I had a croissant and water because I am not a coffee person.

After breakfast, we headed to Times Square because we were staying about a couple blocks away. While in Times Square we did a little shopping at Forever21 because the one in Times Square is absolutely amazing. It's about four levels and I could spend probably a few hours looking through every section.

We also stopped by the Toys "R" Us in Times because as we were walking by I noticed the very large ferris wheel in the window and I had to walk in and see what it was. We continued to walk around and it was very interesting inside. There was a life size Barbie house that had almost every single Barbie doll inside and a very large dinosaur for the Jurassic Park section. Spiderman and Superman also hung from the ceiling. It was very cool and I would definitely recommend bringing a child there so they can ride the ferris wheel and pick out a toy.

For lunch we ate a place that my uncle recommended to us called Carnegie Deli. I guess they are known for selling extremely large sandwiches, which they are extremely large. My sister and I shared a turkey club and my mother had a pastrami sandwich. They were both very large and we did not even come close to finishing them but they were pretty tasty.

My mom, me, and my sister
We also took a walk through Central Park and it completely covered in snow (well technically it was a combination of snow and ice). Since we are from Florida and hardly ever leave the state during the wintertime because we don't really enjoy being cold, we had no idea how hard it is to walk on snow/ice. Thankfully our mother has been all over and lived in many states during different times of the year and told us that you pretty much have to skate on the ice.

The last place we went for the day was the Guggenheim Museum. We had never been to this museum before but my sister and I really wanted to go because it was featured in one of our favorite movies When in Rome starring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel. I didn’t take any pictures of the art inside the museum because I wasn’t sure if you were allowed to. The main artist that was being featured in the museum at the time was On Kawara. To be honest, I did not understand any of his work but it was definitely interesting to get to see other types of art other than just sculptures or paintings of beautiful scenery. The way the museum was designed was also pretty interesting. Basically you start at the bottom and then you slowly walk up a ramp that is in the shape of circle. The only downside is that once you get to the top you can either walk back down the ramp and see everything again or you can wait like some people do to take the one elevator.

I also did not take a picture of the place we ate dinner at because it was honestly a really weird place. We had a really hard time trying to find something for dinner. I’m not sure why but we kept walking and every place we found was either way too expensive or the wait was way too long. We really wanted pizza and apparently the part of town that we were in didn’t see to have a lot of pizza places, which was odd because normally it seems like there is a pizza place on every corner. Eventually, we finally found a place that served pizza along with a lot of other things. I had a slice of cheese pizza and my sister had a slice of pizza that contained a variety of different meats.

It was pretty late after we finished with dinner so we headed back to our hotel and started to get ready for bed because we were pretty ready plus there were three females staying in one hotel room with one bathroom which means it takes us a while to get ready for bed and to get ready in the morning.

Thanks for stopping by! Check back soon for a new post!
