Hey guys,
So on day 4 of our Ireland trip we headed to the
Blarney Castle in Blarney, Co. Cork, Ireland. The castle was very pretty to look at on
the outside but honestly it was not that pretty on the inside. I also had a lot
of issues getting up the stairs because they are very narrow and I am really
afraid of heights so I was very scared of going up them and possibly falling
down them backwards. So most of the time my mom or sister would go in front of
me and then one of them would behind me just incase! This castle is known for
having this stone that you kiss once you get to the very top and if you kiss
the stone (which my sister did) you will receive the gift of eloquence. My mom
and I did not want to kiss the stone full of germs haha!
The castle on the inside was more like ruins because it is
so old and it had basically fallen apart over the years. The floor was very
uneven and hard to walk on. I don’t think I could ever imagine living in a
place like that considering how far we have come. The castle grounds were very
pretty as well. However, there was some construction going on at the front so
we didn’t really get to see what the front entrance would normally look like. I
believe they had us use a side entrance. Also, while we were there, there were
a couple of different school field trips going on so there were a lot of rowdy
kids running around. Other than that, I definitely recommend taking a visit to
see the castle if you happen to be visiting that part of Ireland. It is a very
popular tourist attraction and nothing like we have in America.
After we left the Blarney Castle we went to Cork, Ireland
and walked around the city. When we arrived to the city we looked for a place
to eat lunch and I believe we found a place either online or in a travel book. The
place we ate at was the
Crawford Gallery Café inside the
Crawford Art Gallery. However,
it is not a place that I would recommend. The menu only had like 6 different
options, which was not good for me since I’m such a picky eater. I ended up
getting a steak, which wasn’t too bad, but I am really not the biggest fan of
steak. The only steak I really eat is my mom’s and that’s because she puts
seasoned salt on it or different types of steak seasonings. We also tried a new
soda while eating there. We asked for Coke and the waitress brought us this “Curiosity
Cola” and it was really gross. I definitely don’t recommend drinking it or asking
for it. It tasted nothing like Coke and I basically had to force myself to drink
it because I was pretty thirsty.
Also, while we were in Cork, we found a
TK Maxx, which I was
so excited about because I love shopping at
TJ Maxx and TK Maxx is the European
version of TJ Maxx. While my sister and I were in TK Maxx, our parents were
looking for a bank because they needed to get more Euros for the rest of the
trip. We only ended up buying a bottle of lotion at TK Maxx because we all forgot
lotion and our skin was very dry from flying and because it was pretty cold in
Ireland compared to sunny Florida.
After we left Cork, we checked out the
Charles Fort in
Kinsale, Ireland. The fort was pretty fun to walk around and it had amazing
views. If you are into that type of touristy things then I definitely recommend
going. If you aren’t then I still recommend going because the view was
beautiful. The fort itself was pretty too just because of all the grass that
was everywhere.
For dinner, we ate at another place in Adare Village called
Pat Collins. This was a recommendation by the two security guards who stood at
the gate at the front entrance of our resort. For dinner I had some Asian meal.
I forget what it was called but I believe it was like a teriyaki chicken stir-fry
(yes I ate around the vegetables haha). The meal was pretty tasty but it was
very spicy and I don’t like spicy foods at all. After we finished with dinner
we went to the local grocery store and picked up a few more things, which will
be featured in my next Ireland post.
