My Story

For my first official post I wanted to tell you guys a little bit more about myself and why I am plan on having a career in the fashion industry.

It all started back in 2006 when I was in 7th grade, I met a girl that I became very close with throughout the year and she introduced me into very wonderful worlds; the first being fashion and the second being New York City. I had already learned about a few other designer handbag lines such as Coach and Dooney & Bourke from other friends and I was able to save up my chore money and purchase my own Coach handbag for $98 when I was in 6th grade.  However, since I grew up in a small town on the west coast of Florida, I never really knew other designers existed.

I still remember the day she wore a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans and carrying a Dolce and Gabbana handbag that she was borrowing from her mother. I was so fascinated by how beautifully they were designed and you could just tell that they were really expensive and they were probably going to last her a really long time. After that she brought in a Juicy Couture handbag and thus began my love for all things fashion. We would talk for hours about fashion and New York and how amazing all of it was. Even though my friend and I never really talked much after 7th grade, I am very thankful that I was able to meet her and get to know her because she pretty much changed my life forever.

After I met my friend and we talked about New York City all the time, I was able to convince my parents to take a family there to see what it was like. The second we arrived I knew that I wanted to grow up and move there, it was felt like I was at home and I did not want to leave. One day during our trip, we stopped by the infamous department store Bergdorf Goodman and that’s where I purchased my first pair of designer jeans, a pair of Paige Premium Denim jeans. Ever since then the only thing that I have ever wanted to do with my life is to work in the fashion industry as a women’s clothing buyer for Bergdorf Goodman.

After we left New York, I started to do more research and I fell in love with the fashion industry even more and knew that it was the industry I needed to work in. I talked about it with my mom and I found that when she was younger she was contemplating going into fashion merchandising as well and that’s when we decided that being a women’s clothing buyer was the perfect career for me because depending on where I worked I would be able to meet with designers and browse through their lookbook and attend fashion shows and select which clothes the store would be carrying the next season.

I chose to work towards earning a business degree instead of a fashion degree because everyone that knows me knows that I am a very wishy-washy person and I love to change my mind. Even though working in the fashion industry is something I have wanted to do for the last 9 years, I am not completely sure it is what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. Also, I am not sure if I want to spend the rest of my life living in cramped New York City or extremely busy Los Angeles. After growing up in Florida, I do not believe that either place is suitable for raising a family and since all of my extended family lives in Florida I think it would be best to be around them when starting a family. I love both cities very much but after living in Florida for 21 years, the idea stresses me out. Also, I have become very used to having a Publix on almost every other corner.

Wish me luck and thanks for visiting my blog! Please keep checking back for new posts!
