Searching for a new job

Hey Guys!

So since moving to North Dakota, I had to give up my old job that I had working for our local County back home because they would not let me go remote unfortunately and it was also just becoming a toxic work environment for me and I needed to say goodbye anyways. But it has been about 3 months now and I still haven't really gotten many hits. I haven't had a single interview either. I have had a couple companies reach out to schedule one and after reviewing the job posting, the company on Glassdoor or just emailing with person who reached out to me I didn't end up taking the interview for various reasons.

My applying motto so far has just been to apply to anything and everything that I qualify for in hopes that something will happen and to get my name and resume out there. I am using Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, and a company called Rat Race Rebellion to search for the jobs that I am applying for. And to be fair to myself, I didn't really start the job hunting process until May/June because I had to finish one class for school by the end of May in order to stay on track with my graduation and it was finance class which I find the topic of Account or Finance to be ridiculously boring so I have always struggled with these types of course.

Thankfully, I am in my last semester of school and I have 2 classes and my Capstone project to finish before I can graduate. I have 6 months to complete all of this, as well as look for a job, and plan a wedding! It should be a fun and kind of stressful 6 months. I have actually been focusing on trying to find a job at the moment because my savings is dwindling and I hate saying goodbye to my money! But I really need to focus on school for a little bit so I can make sure I am getting everything done in time.

During my job search and trying to plan all of the wedding related events, I have learned that I really need a more creative job and I am struggling with finding that. I think something in event planning or interior design would be absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately most of those jobs can't really be done remotely. I have also really enjoyed handling the management side of our Airbnb. I engage with our guests and answer any questions that they have. I also work on promoting the Airbnb on different social media sites as well.  I have also always wanted to start my own company and I know that someday I will it's just kind of hard to take that risk right now when you don't have a steady income to help support you if you fall flat on your face. I also need something where I can still travel and I have heard that a lot of people who own their company struggle with that because who runs the company while you are out traveling.

I have a lot of trips coming up for the wedding mostly and one fun with to see some friends that I haven't see since November of 2020! But it's definitely hard to find a job when you have a trip planned like every other month for the next 9 months or so. I will actually do a post on this soon to explain all of the different trips I have coming up!

I think that thing that I am struggling with the most is I honestly don't really know what I want to do career wise. The only career that I have known that I have wanted for many years now is to own my own clothing boutique so I am really having a hard time with what to search for a job. At the moment, I have been applying to jobs in customer service since I have experience, marketing because I think it would be a lot of fun to work in marketing and I also have a degree in marketing, and any sort of entry level tech job because I was kind of in IT in my last job. To be honest, I think my last job was kind of a made up job for that department and there is no real world equivalent for that specific job. We also did so many other jobs just in that one job that I could be considered an coordinator of some sort or something with project management which is what our job titles were all going to be in a couple of years once we all had the same amount of expertise.

I also know that when I am applying to a job I am going up against a ton of people because everyone apparently quit their jobs during the whole pandemic and then around the same time that I did. Some job postings tell you exactly how many applicants there have been so far and I know that the odds are not in my favor when I see that over 1,000 people have applied for the same job. I know that eventually my time will come but after my last job experience I don't really want to settle for anything less than perfect and I know that you won't even really truly find out what the job or the people are like until after you've been there for a little bit and at that point it's ususally already too late. Not to sound pessimistic or anything I just have a lot of anxiety after my last job and from searching for a new one.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed today's post!

XO, Steph
