Spring Break 2016 Ireland Day 5

Hey guys,

So I’m starting this blog post off by showing you some of the foods that we bought at the local grocery store in Adare, Ireland. We picked up this Oreo cookie chocolate bar because who doesn’t love chocolate and Oreo was like the only American thing that we found over there. We aren’t really big food people so it was really hard for us to eat the food over there and by the end of the trip we were really missing American food.

The next thing we bought was Ireland’s version of sour cream and onion chips. They basically tasted very similar to ours but there was probably a little less onion flavor and more sour cream flavor. My favorite of our purchases was the Fox’s Chunkie Cookies. They were very chocolaty and something I would recommend purchasing if you are in Ireland.

Our first stop of the day was Bunratty Castle, which is located in Bunratty, Co. Clare, Ireland. The tourist attraction features a castle and a folk park that are very cute and set up to be kind of authentic to back in the day. It didn’t seem to be very popular during the time that we went but I think it is a much more popular tourist attraction during the summer when it warms up a bit. I apparently forgot to take pictures of the actual castle but I did take a few pictures while walking around the folk park. I ended up recording our experience there on my GoPro and I hope to convince my sister to put together a little video from our entire trip and then I will hopefully be able to post that to the blog.

There was a bar/restaurant that was open while we were there and I believe that during their “season” they have more things open. There was a lot to do throughout the entire area and we wished that we had more time to spend there but we had a lot planned for the day. We talked about coming back to the castle and folk park if we were able to make it back in time but unfortunately it closed before we were able to make it back.

Next, we headed to Burren National Park because my sister wanted to check it out. I believe that has been featured in some movies such as Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, or Star Wars (but I am not entirely sure haha). It was very different from other parts of Ireland that we had seen so far. Most of Ireland seemed to be green but this part appeared to be very dry and lacking water. It was also very rocky and there were a few mountains in the distance that I think you were supposed to be able to hike to but we were not dressed appropriately and we did not have the time.

Our last stop for the day was The Cliffs of Moher. They were absolutely breathtaking and a definite must see if you are traveling to Ireland especially because they are probably one of their most famous tourist attractions. You can basically walk most of the cliffs. We started sort of in the middle and walked to the tower and then walked all the way to the left of the tower. One thing that I have to say is that it is very windy there or at least it was on the day we went. It was very hard to walk in certain areas. There is also a certain part that you can walk by and it’s basically raining because the waves are hitting the cliffs so hard the water sprays up.

The last 3 images are just random pictures I took on the drive home. The first one is ruins of an old building because they have them everywhere in Ireland. You will see so many ruins if you are driving on the highways or driving through different towns. The next one is an image of a tunnel that we drove through. My sister and I totally tried holding our breath but I don’t think we made it haha. The last image is of the Adare Castle. The village where our hotel was had an old castle in it that was technically on the property of our hotel but the castle was closed to the public and no one was allowed to visit. Thankfully you could see it from the road and I was able to snap this picture on the way back to our hotel.
