Hey guys,
On day 3 in Paris we
woke up and headed to the Moulin Rouge. We didn’t actually go inside or
anything but we took a couple pictures of the outside and then waited in line
to get on Le Petit Train de Montmartre, which directly translates into The Little Train ofMontmartre. The little train takes you around the Montmartre area which is
actually where our hotel was located. Another tourist attraction that is
located in the area is Sacré-Coeur, which translates into sacred heart. This is
the stop that we got off on and we didn’t take the little train again.
We walked around the
area that Sacré-Coeur is located in and while we were walking around we
witnessed the craziest thing (well crazy for us at least)! We walking up to the
church and we noticed this group of girls who were throwing things at an older
gentleman. We were so confused and at first we thought maybe the girls were in
trouble so we just kept walking towards them but then we noticed that he
started throwing things back at them. Next, we see the girls digging through
the garbage to throw more things at him and we finally realize that the girls
are most likely pickpockets and he wouldn’t let them steal from him so this
angered them. At one point, the girls ended up running towards us so we turned
around and walked back to where we had just come from because we did not want
to be involved whatsoever.
Eventually, we
noticed that the man had been able to get away from the girls and we thought
that he was going to try and find someone to tell about them but he ended up
walking up the stairs to the church and the girls hid in some bushes and were
still trying to throw things at him. I am not sure what made them stop finally,
but thankfully they did and the man just walked away from the area.
After witnessing
that, we were finally able to go into the church and take a look around inside.
We weren’t allowed to take pictures inside but I took quite a few of the
outside and of the view from the steps. I always thought that you were able to
see the Eiffel Tower from the steps of Sacré-Coeur but unfortunately we could
not see it. It was cloudy and kind of dreary that morning but the view of the
city was still pretty amazing.
Next, we walked down
all of the steps of the Sacré-Coeur and we ended up walking on this street
filled with gift shop type stores to get to the bus stop to pick up the tour
bus. It was really crazy; the entire street on both sides was basically filled
with stores selling different types of souvenirs. We did a little shopping but
I really regret not doing more shopping on that street. There were so many
unique items in each of the stores and I probably could have gone broke buying
different items that had the Eiffel Tower on them. My favorite item that I bought
from one of the stores was a picture frame that had the Eiffel Tower,
Sacré-Coeur, L’Arc de Triomphe, and Notre Dame.
We only shopped in a
couple of the stores because we didn’t really have that much time to do a lot
of shopping. We wanted to make sure that we got most of the items on our list
done because who knows when we’ll be going back to Paris! We made it to our bus
stop, which was actually located in the wrong spot so we almost ended up
missing our bus but thankfully the driver waited for us.
I am not sure which
stop we got off on but we headed to the Grévin Wax museum next (honestly this
is not something I would recommend unless you are from France or know A LOT
about French culture and celebrities). There were probably only about 20 wax figures
that we actually knew because the rest were either French celebrities or it
told the story of French history or different French stories/fairytales. It was
still neat to experience but it definitely would not make it on my top 10 list
for Paris.
Once we finished with
the wax museum, we were actually right next door to the Hard Rock Café. So yes,
we totally ate there again but we had a coupon this time and we received a free
non-alcoholic cocktail. It was pretty tasty but I think I ended up drinking more
of my diet coke.
After lunch, we
headed to another bus stop and took the bus to the Paris Opera House stop,
which is technically called Palais Garnier. We took a guided tour of the Opera
house and it was really fun to learn all about it. For those of you who don’t
know but this where the story The Phantom of the Opera was actually created. It
is based off of this opera house and box number 5 which is pictured below is
the phantoms box where he would watch Christine Daaé perform. I mostly took
this picture for my cousin. She is obsessed with the Phantom of the Opera and
it is her dream to be able to perform in the Paris Opera house someday.
The guy on the balcony was a dancer and we got to watch him rehearse a little.
The tour of the opera
house was kind of long and our particular tour guide decided to go over and
explain almost every single painting on the ceiling, which was kind of time
consuming and a little boring. I am not entirely sure if that is something he
just decided to do or if that is something that all of them do. Other than that,
the tour was great! The paints on the ceilings were stunning, the hallway full
of mirrors and chandeliers were gorgeous, and inside the opera house was
absolutely beautiful!
After we finished
with the tour, we headed to another bus stop and took the bus the Louvre! We
didn’t spend that much time here but as I’ve mentioned before I am not that
crazy about museums so I was totally fine with that. We of course hit the main
sights such as the Mona Lisa, The Raft of Medusa, and The Venus de Milo. My
favorite part of the museum was checking out The Napoleon III Apartments.
We probably left the
Louvre around 7 or maybe 8 and we found a place to have dinner because we were
starving. I really wish that I remembered the name of the place we ate at
because it was really good and it was located right next to the Louvre. We
ended up ordering a couple of pizzas, which were much smaller than American
pizza’s.
After dinner I
believe we headed straight to the Eiffel Tower to watch it twinkle again at 10
pm and then we headed back to our hotel to get some rest.
Thanks for stopping
